Suffolk County Red Light Camera Settlement

What This Settlement Is About

A Settlement has been reached with Suffolk County and the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violation Agency (the “County Defendants”) in a class action lawsuit alleging that, from April 1, 2013 to the present, the County Defendants imposed an unlawful $30 administrative fee on top of the fine for each red-light camera violation. The Defendants deny the merit of this allegation and deny any wrongdoing.

Your rights are affected whether you act or not. The Court in charge of this case still must decide whether to approve the Settlement.

Am I Included?

The Settlement Class includes all Persons or Entities who, between April 1, 2013 and the present, paid a $30 Administrative Fee to the County Defendants for red-light camera program violations.

Excluded are the Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice assigned to the action, any trial or appellate judge assigned to it, members of their immediate families, and any Settlement Class Member who timely opts out.

What Does the Settlement Provide?

If approved by the Court, the County Defendants will pay up to $45,000,000 for cash payments to Settlement Class Members who file Valid Claims. They have also agreed to separately pay settlement administration expenses, court-approved attorneys’ fees and costs, and an award to the Class Representative.

How Much Is the Payment?

Settlement Class Members may submit a Claim Form to receive up to $36 for each red-light violation administrative fee paid between April 1, 2013 and the present.

That amount may be subject to a proportional reduction if the total of all Valid Claims exceeds the $45,000,000 maximum.

How Do I File a Claim?

Look for a postcard Claim Form in the mail. You can file two ways:

• Online by 11:59 p.m. ET on December 8, 2026 at www.SuffolkRedLightSettlement.com
• By mail, using the Claim Form attached to your Notice, postmarked no later than December 8, 2026

Claim Forms can also be downloaded from the settlement website or requested by calling Kroll at (833) 447-6790. Filing is free and you do not need to hire a lawyer.

Your Rights and Options

• Submit a Claim Form. The only way to receive benefits from this Settlement. Due December 8, 2026.
• Exclude yourself. If you opt out, you are not bound by the Settlement and you keep the right to sue the Defendants about the claims it resolves, but you will not receive benefits. Due November 9, 2026.
• Object. If you do not opt out, you may object and ask the Court for permission to speak at the Fairness Hearing. If you object, you can still submit a Claim Form. Due November 9, 2026.
• Do nothing. You will not get benefits and you give up the right to sue the Defendants about the claims this Settlement resolves.

The Final Approval Hearing

The Court is scheduled to hold a Fairness Hearing on December 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time at the Supreme Court of New York, Suffolk County, 1 Court Street, Riverhead, NY 11901, to decide whether to approve the Settlement, the attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses, and the award to the Class Representative. The date and time may change without further notice.
